Peter Coates began his bookmaking business in 1974 when his company ran a chain of betting shops in the Midlands and North West under the Provincial Racing banner. In 2005, the company was branded as Bet365 and the chain of 50 betting shops was sold to Gala Coral for a reputed £40M as the business moved its resources into online gambling.
In 2000 Denise Coates took the bold decision to buy the Bet365.com domain for £10,000 and the inspiration for the business was born. Bet365 now has over 2000 employees and is ran on a day to day basis by Denise and John Coates, the daughter and son of the Chairman Peter Coates.
